Gobekli Tepe: 12,000 Years Old and Rewriting Human History
Elaborate, complex temple pre-agricultural and pre-pottery i.e. built by hunter-gatherers, it predates settled human life. Weirdest detail is that 1500 years after being built, these folks went through the trouble of burying the complex.
Archeologist Schmidt have found so far are four closely packed stone circles rather like Stonehenges. These consist of two central pillars – massive central pillars between 10 and 15 tons each – within a set of two concentric circles of smaller pillars about 10 to 15 tons. Schmidt thinks that GT was a funeral complex where the bodies were placed in niches at the feet of the megaliths and then eaten by wild animals. The religious life at the temple then drove the people into agriculture because this happens to be the place where agriculture and the domestication of animals had its beginning.
"Ground-penetrating radar surveys indicate there might be at least 250 more standing stones in eighteen still-buried circles. Finely honed reliefs and some 3-dimensional sculptures on the limestone columns depict boars, foxes, lions, birds, snakes, scorpions, vultures, reptiles, humans and other odd figures and symbols."
The figures carved on the limestone are exquisite.

Iran
As a simple observer, I've seen the drum beat against Iran since a couple of months after the invasion of Iraq in 2003. It was then that I read articles in the Israeli press as to how the U.S. had to be pressed into attacking Iran next. It was all within the Neocons' and Israel's plan for Ersatz Israel.
But I did read an analysis (can't remember where or by whom, although it may have been Pepe Escobar's) that perhaps U.S., Israel and Iran may actually be working together to keep their populations railed up with all the talk of war. After all, frightened people tend to "rally around the flag" i.e. the status quo is preserved.
After 7 years of hearing the war tum tums, I'm thinking that that analyst was correct.
On this theme of Iran, one thing I ponder sometimes: why the push this summer to scare people into thinking that an attack on Iran was imminent? There was a lot of talk from former military folks who claimed to have good sources in the intelligence community that Israel would attack within "30 to 60 days". That meant July or August. Having the hypothesis of my forgotten commentator in mind, I leaned against my rock and waited peacefully. I don't know why TPTB pushed the fear button but I guess a lot of the survivalist and gun shops and gold sellers made a mint this summer.

U.S military preparing Americans for Pakistan occupation
I don't watch TV or read the MSM; there is only sensationalism or well-massaged and shaped news that smell mostly of propaganda. I've given up on politics since there is only one political party operating under two guises: Dem and Repub. But even under my rock, I catch glimpses of what is happening in the wider world.
First came Wikileaks' amazing flood* of 100,000 documents (April? 2010) telling us that Pakistan is not a good ally. Something to set some teeth gnashing. (* Wanna bet nothing much happens to the leaker? Even if the government announces that he is in some brig, how would we know that that is true? And if you wonder why I distrust the government, let me count the ways: the Maine, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Gulf of Tonkin, WMDs in Iraq, Guantanamo, ...).
Now CIA-trained senior intelligence operations officer, Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer, comes out in C2C to stir Americans against Pakistan again. His arguments are: 1) our dear dead boogey man, Bin Laden, is in Pakistan; 2) Paks have nukes which means that Muslims (a term which the MSM equates with "terrorist") have nukes; 3) Pak shelters the Taliban.
A long time ago, before crawling under my rock, I read a very good analysis in (I think) Asia Times about what could be expected of the U.S. vis a vis Pakistan. One of the points it made was that the U.S. would come up with an excuse (such as instability and the U.S. sure has caused instability there since then) to take over Pakistan's nukes. Well, Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer is handing 3 reasons why to move against Pakistan.

A New Earth?
The announcement Wednesday (Sept. 29) of two newfound alien planets circling the star Gliese 581 adds to the nearby solar system's intrigue, further cementing its status as a top candidate to harbor extraterrestrial life.
One of the two newly discovered planets, known as Gliese 581g, is a small, Earth-like world that likely lies within its star's habitable zone — the just-right range of distances that allow liquid water to exist.
